Search suggestion ban on Twitter (X)
A search suggestion ban means your X account stops appearing in the dropdown suggestions when someone types your name or handle.
Your profile still exists and your posts are still visible. It is the mildest and most common X restriction. It is invisible from your own logged-in session, and X does not always notify you. People who do not already follow you stop finding you.

How do I check a search suggestion ban manually, without any tool?
Use a second account that does not follow you. X personalizes suggestions, so your own results are not a reliable comparison. A private window does not help much: many logged-out pages only show a login prompt.
- Sign in with that second account.
- Click the search box and type your exact handle, without the @, one character at a time.
- Watch the dropdown: a healthy account appears in the suggestions by the time its full handle is typed.
- If nothing shows even with the full handle typed, while the profile opens fine at x.com/yourhandle, that is a search suggestion ban.
How long does a search suggestion ban last?
X publishes no expiry date for this restriction, so a public check cannot assign one to your account. Community reports describe different durations and cannot predict your case.
Read any notice from X and complete its requested steps. Then repeat the same check to see whether your profile is suggested again.
A new account missing from suggestions does not by itself establish a restriction. Activity, the viewer and the search query all affect what the check shows. Record the result and compare later under the same conditions.
How do I fix a search suggestion ban?
Start with the account notice in X. Complete any requested step, and use the review route in the notice if you believe X made an error.

- Review Settings, Security and account access, Apps and sessions. Revoke access for apps you do not recognize or no longer want. Keep the legitimate tools you chose to use.
- Stop bulk actions: mass following, mass liking, posting the same reply repeatedly.
- Complete any email or phone verification that X requests in your account notice.
- Re-check under the same viewing conditions and record the date. A returning suggestion confirms that result at that time, not every surface on X.
If the dropdown check leaves you unsure, test your handle and see the other three restrictions in the same pass.
