How do I check a search suggestion ban manually, without any tool?
The check must happen from outside your own session: X personalizes suggestions, and your own account is always suggested to you. A second account that does not follow you is the reliable way in: X has walled off most logged-out pages, so a private window often just hits a sign-in prompt.

- Click the search box and type your exact handle, without the @, one character at a time.
- Watch the dropdown: a healthy account appears in the suggestions by the time its full handle is typed.
- If nothing shows even with the full handle typed, while the profile opens fine at x.com/yourhandle, that is a search suggestion ban.
How long does a search suggestion ban last?
X publishes no duration. In community reports it typically clears within a few days to two weeks once the behavior that triggered it stops. It is the restriction that lifts fastest, and the lift is as silent as the ban: nothing tells you it is over except checking again.
New accounts are the exception: they are often missing from suggestions simply because they have not built activity yet, not because they are banned. Test again after a week of normal use before concluding anything.
How do I fix a search suggestion ban?
There is no appeal form for suggestion bans, so the fix is behavioral: remove what looks automated or spammy, then wait.
