Ghost ban on Twitter (X)
A ghost ban detaches your replies from the conversation they belong to: everyone else sees the thread without them.

A ghost ban is also called a thread ban or reply ban. You still see your own replies from your session, and the reply counter still counts them. Nothing warns you, which makes it the hardest restriction to spot on your own.

Why can't people see my replies on X?
Other people may not see your reply when X detaches it from the conversation, buries it behind Show more replies, or when the post's author hides it. From your own account, the reply still looks normal.
- Ghost ban: the reply is removed from the thread entirely, in every sort order.
- Reply deboosting: the reply is buried at the bottom of the default sort or behind Show more replies.
- Hidden by the post's author: the author's choice, not a restriction on your account.

Why are my tweets getting zero views?
Zero views is usually not a ghost ban. Reach depends on several things at once:
- a quiet posting window;
- an off day for the algorithm;
- a topic that is not landing.
A ghost ban does not show up in the view count. It shows up as your replies missing from threads for people other than you. Guessing from view counts alone settles nothing, so the check above measures the thread directly instead.
Am I ghost banned on X?
The clearest sign is a recent reply of yours that is missing when you open the conversation from a second account. It must be missing in both the default and Latest sort, while replies posted around the same time are visible.
Your own reply counter and notifications still look normal from inside your account, because the masking only applies to how other people see the thread. Confirming it means running the outside check above, not reading your own session.
How do I check a ghost ban manually, without any tool?
X composes each thread at the moment it is read, so you must read it as an outsider, in both sort orders. Use a second account that does not follow you. A private window does not help much: many logged-out pages only show a login prompt.
- Reply to a post from an account with an active conversation, or find a recent reply of yours.
- Copy the link of the post you replied to.
- Open it from that second account.
- Look for your reply in the default sort, then switch to Latest and look again.
- If your reply appears in neither sort while replies posted around the same time are visible, that is a ghost ban.
How long does a ghost ban last?
X publishes no universal duration for missing replies. Recheck the same reply and conversation under consistent viewing conditions.
An old reply can remain absent while newer replies behave differently. Compare old and new content separately rather than assuming every reply returns together.
A reply can return to its conversation without a notice. You can get an email when it lifts instead of re-reading a thread every morning.

What the ghost ban check measures
The check takes the account's recent replies to other people's conversations and reads each conversation as X serves it to readers. If X serves the reply, it is not ghost banned.
An absence is only called a ghost ban once it is proven: the reply is missing from a conversation read to the very end. A conversation that cannot be read to the end proves nothing, so the check moves on to the next one.
The ghost ban check returns Untestable instead of a guessed verdict in two cases:
- a thread whose author restricts who can reply;
- a thread too large to finish reading.
"No replies to check" means the account has not replied to anyone recently, so the ghost ban and reply deboosting checks have no reply to look for. Both checks then count as completed, never as failed, and stay out of the score.
On a private account or an account with no posts, the ghost ban and reply deboosting checks cannot run: the result shows "Private account" or "No posts yet" on those two checks instead of a verdict.

Can only some of my replies be ghost banned, not all?
Yes. Thread visibility is decided per conversation, so one reply can be masked while another, posted around the same time, is not.
Testing a single reply proves that reply's status, not the whole account's. That is why the manual check above says to test a recent reply.
Does X's own Under the Hood report show a ghost ban?
Not directly. X's own Under the Hood report is a monthly summary of the labels applied to your account or your posts.

How do I fix a ghost ban?
Review repeated promotional replies and unwanted reply automation. A public thread check does not reveal a spam label or the number of reports from other users.

- Replace repeated promotional replies with messages that address each conversation. Repeated wording is an observation, not proof of a spam label.
- Stop apps from sending replies or engagement you did not intend.
- Review links for relevance and safety instead of adding the same link to unrelated conversations.
- Re-run the thread check from a second account under the same viewing conditions and record whether the reply is present.
Your own session settles nothing here, since the masking only applies to how other people read the thread: the shadowban test reads it from the outside instead.
