What does X's published code say about duration?
X open-sourced its recommendation and spam labeling code in 2026, and several visibility flags carry exact timers in it: 7 days for the report ratio flag, the flagged pinned link account flag, and the adult content account flag, 14 or 30 days for a flagged reply, and 30 days for several policy-violation labels covering hateful conduct and repeated spam or AI-generated content. Duplicate content flags carry no timer at all and typically persist until the flagged post is deleted.

What makes an X shadowban last longer?
A ban runs longer when the flagged behavior keeps going (automation still running, identical replies still going out: it simply renews), when it is a repeat offense (restricted accounts report longer and harsher rounds each time), or when user reports keep coming in.
Deleting all your posts, mass-unfollowing, or abandoning the account for a day or two are popular advice and change little: what matters is stopping the triggering behavior specifically, then giving it time.
